Google AR Assistant
As part of a promotion for the 2021 Tokyo Olympics, Google released an augmented reality (AR) feature that included animated 3D models of star athletes.
The motion design goal was to visualize interactions, gestures, and context for Google’s AR and Assistant experiences. It was key to convey the technology in a way that feels natural, light, and distinctly Google. Maintain UX clarity while adding visual depth and polish.
Role: Motion Design
Letícia Bufoni
For Bufoni, Google worked with OC Ramps to build a skate ramp in a studio for filming, which was used to create the AR animation.
Simone Biles
The feature allows you to slow down the action and study the details of her gymnastics routine. Biles herself collaborated on the project and confirmed the model's accuracy.
HOMEWORK
“Make at-home learning more fun with 3D and AR in Search”
Search for skeletal system to trace the bones in the human body and see how they connect. Read labels on each body part or view life-size images in AR to better understand its scale.
MAPS
Users could use voice search in Google Maps to find places or get directions, by tapping the microphone icon in the search bar.
